Review of Rick Simpson's "Run from the Cure":

The major psychoactive component in marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol, has been shown to have anticarcinogenic activity. The other major component of cannabis  - cannabidiol, has also been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth, with low potency in non-cancer cells.

In the Netherlands the company Bedrocan B.V. offers three different varieties of standardized hemp flowers with THC (up to 18%) and CBD (up to 7%). The production and quality is monitored by the Cannabis Bureau specifically set up by the Health Ministry for the purpose of quality control.
Since the first of march 2005 Bedrocan BV is the only company contracted by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport for the growth and production of medicinal Cannabis. Cannabis Flos Bedrocan®, Bedrobinol® and Bediol® can be prescribed by doctors for both humans and animals.

K5 News Up Front: It is time to legalize marijuana

December 18, 2011 - Is it time to legalize marijuana?

KING 5 News Up Front with Robert Mak:

On Seattle television King 5 News, two former US attorneys, John McKay and Kate Pflaumer and the former head of Seattle FBI, Charles Mandigo, spoke out on why they think it's time to change the federal law and to legalize of marijuana.

Pflaumer stated, "It's a policy position that has become obvious to me over 35 years working in criminal law enforcement and criminal law defense."

Even though both US attorneys agree that it's a bad policy, they said it was their job to enforce the law.

Former head of Seattle FBI, Charles Mandigo says he does not condone the use of marijuana, but he supports the initiative, because he feels strongly that the illegal drug trade and the resulting violence is destroying our society.

Our discussion continues after the taping of KING 5 News Up Front, with former U.S. Attorneys John McKay and Kate Pflaumer, and former Seattle FBI Agent in charge Charlie Mandigo.

State laws vary greatly, but under Federal law cultivation, possession, or sale of any amount, for any purpose, remain illegal.

Washington State's Initiative 52 would allow persons 21 and over to have in their possession either 1 ounce of dried marijuana, 16 ounces of marijuana infused food, or 72 ounces in a liquid form. The state's Liquor Control Board would manage the system and the estimated income could be over $215 million per year. The state's DUI laws would be extended to cover driving under the influence of marijuana.

Regarding concerns that the taxes being imposed would so high that this new law would not end the black market for sales, Mandigo replied, "I don't think that's the case, I think that most American people want to be law abiding, and given an opportunity to purchase marijuana in a regulated scheme, and not violate the law, that they would choose that as an option. Further if you are selling it under a regulated scheme, you have quality control and you know exactly what the substance is that is being sold and... at a regulated point-of-sale, that you can impose warning labels like you do for the sale of alcohol or tobacco."

Some people fear that legalization might lead to marijuana becoming available in other places such as grocery stores, as did alcohol. Former US Attorney John McKay said, "The question is whether we should continue criminal prohibition of marijuana... for any amount for any reason. Is that successful? I don't think so. We have a huge number of persons who smoke marijuana and obtain it illegally and the proceeds go to drug cartels. Better for us to look now at a scheme that we regulate, that we tax, and maintain criminal penalties.

PBS Travel Guru Rick Steves on Smoking Pot is "My Civil Liberty" PBS Travel Guru Rick Steves-Smoking Pot is "My Civil Liberty"

Portugal's Radical Drug Policy (21 min):

Rick Steves' Portugal Tour:

"I'm a hardworking, tax-paying, kid-raising, church-going citizen of this country," say author and PBS travel host Rick Steves, "and if I work hard all day long and want to go home and relax with a joint, that is my civil liberty." caught up with Steves at Seattle Hempfest in August, where he spoke with Nick Gillespie about marijuana laws and whether his outspoken defense of legalization has effected his books sales, tour bookings, and television career.

Seattle Hempfest is an annual event that started in 1991 as a protest against the prohibition of marijuana, the commercial cultivation of non-psychoactive hemp for a variety of uses, and related issues. For 20 years, tens of thousands of people gather each summer to listen to speakers and bands and to show their support for legalizing pot and hemp products.

Cannabis Science Negotiates Several Commercialization Deals To Make Its Anti-Cancer Cannabis Formulations Available To The Public

Cannabis Science Negotiates Several Commercialization Deals To Make Its Anti-Cancer Cannabis Formulations Available To The Public

(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cannabis Science, Inc. (OTCBB:CBIS.ob -News), a US biotech company developing pharmaceutical cannabis products, is pleased to announce negotiations with several commercialization groups gto bring its anti-cancer cannabis formulations to the public as soon as possible. This collection of public data will be a major contribution to the body of evidence that will guide our Investigative New Drug Applications to the FDA for critical ailments such as cancer.

Cancer is our number one target based on our acquisition of physician documented positive treatment results. Beyond the well-known palliative options that cannabis provides for patients suffering from cancer and the side effects of the standard treatments, there has been a worldwide explosion of scientific studies demonstrating the ability of cannabinoids to kill cancer cells in animals and tissue culture.

Additionally, patients have initiated personal experimentation in medical marijuana states. Currently, the Company, in collaboration with the Phoenix Tears Foundation (, is aware of multiple patients involved in a cannabis-based self-treatment regimen designed to cease cancer progression, improve quality of life through increased sleep and nutrition intake, and in a number of cases put patients in remission.

It is now clear that a standardized, well-profiled, and safe cannabis extract must be used for the treatment of this disease. Cannabis Science has been actively working with other organizations –in the US and abroad –to meet this need not only on the dispensary level, but also in pursuing FDA approval.

Our short-term goal is to coordinate clinical partnerships and patient care with a standardized Cannabis Science product line in Colorado, and to gather data that supports the use of cannabis extracts for this indication.

Cancer drugs tend to be hugely expensive. It is a multi-billion dollar market.

However, it is not clear how the current market size could be extrapolated into any valuation of cannabis products, which would cost far less.

The Company is also developing some creative new national and international educational programs about Cannabis Science for a variety of media. The focus will be on patient interactions, successful self-medication, pharmaceutical grade cannabis product development, quality control standardizations, successful anti-cancer cannabis treatments, as well as patient data retention nationally and internationally.

Medical Marijuana: The Science

Denver Post Media Center:

Genovations Creations:
This is the new science of pot, part of a fresh wave of study and innovation among scientists and cannabis advocates all seeking to solve a central conundrum: In Colorado and other states, first came the approval of marijuana as medicine. Next comes the challenge of proving its effectiveness.

The newest research leaves little doubt that marijuana -- or at least its chemical components -- has promise in alleviating symptoms of some ailments, while also making clear that the drug is not without its drawbacks, some potentially serious.

What is less certain is whether Colorado's medical-marijuana system of dispensaries and caregivers -- where commitment to scientific rigor and compassionate patient care is largely voluntary -- can maximize that treatment potential for the benefit of patients.

Medical Marijuana, A Cure for Cancer?
Robert Melamede, Ph.D.

Biology Dept. UCCS, Cannabis Science Inc, Phoenix Tears Foundation

Every vertebrate, from the time of conception till the time of death, literally has all body systems homeostatically regulated by endocannabinoids (marijuana-like compounds produced by the body). Illnesses are biochemical imbalances, failures of homeostasis. By being alive, all organisms suffer from the common biochemical imbalances that underlie aging and all age-related illness, including autoimmune, cognitive, cardiovascular diseases, as well as cancers.

Over 600 peer reviewed articles show that numerous cancer types (lung, breast, prostate, glioma, thyroid, leukemia, lymphoma, basil cell carcinoma, melanoma, etc) are killed by cannabinoids in tissue culture and animal studies. Furthermore, cannabinoids inhibit the biochemical pathways involved in metastasis and drug resistance. The question that naturally arises is “Why is a plant that inhibits aging, kills cancers, and whose activity is found in mother’s milk illegal?!

Because federal and state governments have failed to implement marijuana policies that are reflective of modern scientific knowledge and thousands of years of medical history, the people have demanded, and gained access to this miraculous medicine through direct vote with the initiative process. In effect, marijuana clinical efforts are now in the hands of the people and the medical marijuana community. This poster provides dramatic photographic evidence of cannabis extracts curing basal-cell carcinoma via it’s topical application.

This Australian woman grew up in Queensland where the population suffers from the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of cancer with over 800,000 cases occurring each year in the US. She had a number of surgeries to remove previous lesions including a basal cell carcinoma. After a new lesion appeared on her right cheek, alternative therapies that included the topical application of cannabis extracts were tried. Cannabis extracts were applied daily until her surgeon stated that there was no need for surgery since the lesion on her cheek was gone, However, a new lesion had appeared on her right nostril. The series of photos below documents the disappearance of the lesion on the nostril after ten days of self-administering topical cannabis extracts. - -
