The major psychoactive component in marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol, has been shown to have anticarcinogenic activity. The other major component of cannabis - cannabidiol, has also been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth, with low potency in non-cancer cells. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AnticarcinogenUnlocking a Cure for Cancer With Pot: http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig5/armentano-p1.html
"cannabinoids could provide unquestionable advantages compared to current antitumoural therapies: (1) cannabinoids selectively affect tumour cells more than their nontransformed counterparts that might even be protected from cell death;..."The Office of Medicinal Cannabis is willing to deliver also outside the Netherlands...
In the Netherlands the company Bedrocan B.V. offers three different varieties of standardized hemp flowers with THC (up to 18%) and CBD (up to 7%). The production and quality is monitored by the Cannabis Bureau specifically set up by the Health Ministry for the purpose of quality control. http://www.vapormed.com/volcano-medic-vaporizer/en/cannabis-flos.php

"Withdrawal of the drug did not lead to any obvious physical withdrawal symptoms either in people or in animals, and animals failed to self-administer the drug, a behaviour usually associated with drugs of addiction. This is the new science of pot, part of a fresh wave of study and innovation among scientists and cannabis advocates all seeking to solve a central conundrum: In Colorado and other states, first came the approval of marijuana as medicine. Next comes the challenge of proving its effectiveness.Internet Archive: http://www.archive.org/details/MedicalMarijuanaTheScience
The newest research leaves little doubt that marijuana -- or at least its chemical components -- has promise in alleviating symptoms of some ailments, while also making clear that the drug is not without its drawbacks, some potentially serious.
What is less certain is whether Colorado's medical-marijuana system of dispensaries and caregivers -- where commitment to scientific rigor and compassionate patient care is largely voluntary -- can maximize that treatment potential for the benefit of patients.
